Random Acts of Kindness for Caregivers

The AARP has recently launched a Random Acts of Kindness for Caregivers Contest in hopes that Americans will show support to the 40 million caregivers among them during National Family Caregivers Month. The AARP encourages everyone to share photos and anecdotes about random acts of kindness for caregivers via social media with the hashtag #BeKindToCaregivers. From now until March, photos and stories may be posted once a week. AARP will select 12 winners they believe have the most creative, impactful, and original acts of kindness to split a $10,000 cash prize.

Examples of these random acts of kindness could be helping a caregiver with their driving duties, cooking for the caregiver, or running errands for the caregiver. Even small acts of kindness go a long way, like holding the door for a caregiver pushing a wheelchair. For more ideas, AARP released a list of 100 random acts of kindness that can be found in their October/November issue of AARP The Magazine.

Amy Goyer, writer for The Huffington Post, explains, “Together, I believe we can create an environment of more support and honor for family caregivers … one random act of kindness at a time.” If you are interested and want to learn more about how to support 1 out of 6 Americans who are caregivers, click here.
