Marlys Fiterman's expertise and knowledge about long term care comes from firsthand experience. When her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Marlys became her primary caregiver. At the same time, she also helped care for her aunt who also suffered from Alzheimer's.
From this experience, Marlys became acutely aware of the high cost of care as well as the emotional, physical and mental consequences family members experience when pre-planning with long term care insurance is not done.
Marlys joined Newman Long Term Care in 2002 after a 33-year teaching career. She frequently writes articles about the need for long-term care for consumer publications. She has also been recognized by her peers as one of the distinguished agents in long-term care insurance due to her personal experience, her knowledge of the industry and her compassion for others.
Marlys stands out not because she "sells" people on long term care insurance but because she educates, listens and responds to the needs of her clients, always keeping their best interests in mind.
Marlys earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and has done advanced work in education at Hamline University, the University of St. Thomas and St. John's University.
Marlys is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), the Twin Cities Quorum Chamber of Commerce, the Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA) and the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. She has earned the Long-Term Care Professional (LTCP) designation and volunteers with the Speaker's Bureau for the Minnesota - North Dakota Alzheimer's Association.
