Deb Newman announces her retirement

Deb Newman, Founder of Newman Long Term Care

Deb Newman, president and founder of Newman Long Term Care, has announced that she will retire on March 29, 2019.

Deb is a true insurance industry icon and a pioneer as a female entrepreneur in the Twin Cities. Deb’s retirement will be a loss to the industry, her team at Newman Long Term Care, the advisors she’s worked with, and our community. Deb has been a tireless advocate for the long-term care industry and a frequent spokesperson both locally and nationally to agents and consumers alike.

In 2015, Deb had the opportunity to secure her 30-year legacy with the sale of Newman Long Term Care to Thrivent. The acquisition was the first for Thrivent, and it helped them establish a foothold in distributing their LTCI solution to the independent brokerage market. Deb believes she could not have found a better partner for her values and mission of helping people finish well.

During the three years that Newman Long Term Care has been part of Thrivent, its sales for all product lines have more than doubled. This growth is especially noteworthy since it comes at a time when overall sales of long term care policies have declined.

  • Tim Dona, new President of Newman Long Term Care

Deb said, “One of my proudest accomplishments in my 40-year insurance career came very recently as we solidified the plan for our new President, Tim Dona, to take leadership of the company.   Leaving Newman Long Term Care with our existing leadership team, a phenomenal group of talented employees, a committed parent company and an experienced successor allows me to leave knowing that our family of employees and customers will be served with the same strong core values they have come to expect.”  Click here to learn more about Tim Dona.

  • “Another success that allows me to retire at this point, is knowing we already achieved our Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) of helping 50,000 families with a long term care insurance solution. That was a ten year goal and we are currently over 58,000 and counting!”

Deb will continue being active in Rotary and on the board of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, as well as pursuing her number one “bucket list” goal of becoming conversational in Italian!

A celebration for Deb is planned at the Newman Long Term Care offices on March 21 from 4:00 to 7:00!  Learn more and RSVP at
